“Your sun will no longer set, nor will your moon wane; for you will have the Lord as an everlasting light, and the days of your mourning will be over. Then all your people will be righteous; they will possess the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified. The smallest one will become a thousand, and the least one a mighty nation. I, the Lord, will bring it about quickly in its time.”
—Isaiah 60:20–22
What a beautiful prophecy about our forever future as believers with God in heaven.
The Lord will be our eternal light. There will be no short days of winter nor long nights of summer, only the Light of the World illuminating everything.
All our mourning will come to an end—no more crying, sorrow, pain, or death (Revelation 21:4).
Everyone there will be fully righteous; we will no longer battle this world of sin and heartache, broken relationships, temptation, and discord. We will rest in perfect harmony. Just as the wolf will lie down with the lamb and the lion with the calf (Isaiah 11:5–6), all humankind will live peaceably together.
And while we may feel like we’re the smallest or least in our lifetime, that’s not an issue in heaven. There, the least one will be like a mighty nation. We can’t fathom what this might entail, but it will be glorious!
And the Lord will do all this in its proper time. He’s not slow, though it may seem like he is to us, but patient, ensuring all have the chance to come to him (2 Peter 3:9).
These promises are our inheritance and the hope that will carry us through the current darkness, sorrow, and discouragement.
