“Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

—Proverbs 16:3

When we ask ourselves what we can do to honor God and love others in our daily actions, the Holy Spirit gives us confidence and guidance in our plans for the future.

Perhaps this is why so many of us feel confused and uncertain. We make our own plans without ever committing them to the Lord, or we’ve decided we’re supposed to attempt grand things for him before we’ve ever committed our current duties to him. Maybe we’re still doing many of our daily tasks with bitterness, anger, or carelessness, but Luke 16:10 says, “The one who is faithful in a very little thing is also faithful in much; and the one who is unrighteous in a very little thing is also unrighteous in much.”

Committing our works to the Lord ensures that our plans will also be his plans, and through our faithfulness and commitment, they will be established in our lives and for his kingdom.

So many people in the Bible were simply living faithfully where they were—Ruth, Joseph, Daniel, Paul, David, Esther, Mordecai . . . the list could go on. And because they were faithful in the small things, the Lord established their plans, and they did great work in the kingdom of God.

When we dedicate all our works to him, he will establish our plans when the time is right. We may not know what he is guiding us toward, and the way might not be easy. His timing may not be what we would like or plan for ourselves, but he will give us everything we need to do his will when we’ve committed all our works to him no matter the circumstance.
