“Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law.”
—Romans 13:10
We tend to think our secret sins harm no one but ourselves, but everything that doesn’t fulfill the law harms other humans in one way or another.
Secret sins prevent us from becoming who God created us to be (Psalm 139:13–18; Jeremiah 1:5) and from doing the good works he set out for us before we were ever born (Ephesians 2:10).
Maybe our laziness, procrastination, or fear of failure is keeping us from pressing into the purpose God has for us. Even this is harming others because it means we’re not investing what God has given us into his kingdom (Matthew 25:14–30). When we bury what he’s given us to do instead of acting on it, we’re withholding not only our service for him, but what he’s given us to help others along in their faith.
Doing no wrong to a neighbor requires not only inaction, but action.
We must spend our time and our words wisely rather than frivolously, representing Christ in actions fueled by the Holy Spirit. We walk each morning with Christ anew, allowing him to guide our steps.
It is no easy thing to live a life where we do no wrong, but love is our calling, and that’s what it requires.
What steps can we take today to cease doing harm and begin walking in the good works the Lord has called us to?
